WAVES
By Shannon Brooks
Stay in the wave
as crests begin to form
down the line.
The dense blue swell goes
toward the empty shore.
Please do not leave me alone
with the jellyfish and
their draping tentacles.
I might use them like a life-vest
in a riptide -- to carry
my poisoned body
out to sea.
This is one of many poems I have written about depression. It can either be enlightening for someone who has never experienced it, or validating for someone who is going through it.
