HOW TO ENJOY A DAY OF RAIN
By Shannon Brooks
Draw open the drapes and reveal
the forgotten, gray landscape.
Crack the windows; it’s already
been months since the fresh air
kissed the pane of the ledge inside.
The scent of water, dirt, air - fills
and swirls, like an aphrodisiac sweeping
us away to the throes of passion.
Allow the lull of rain’s sweet song to lure
your placid soul – to the cool comforts
of clean, white, cotton sheets.
Just beyond the weathered door lies
the not-so-fertile field, wanting.
Written for a poetry class at K-State, this poem echoes sentiments of our struggles with infertility, in addition to it's assigned topic of "how to" do something.
